Use Watchtower in your AI assistant

Bring Watchtower's collection of bank climate policies into ChatGPT, Claude or any of your preferred AI assistants. Search documents, investigate policy changes and explore what banks actually commit to. Simply ask the question.

Example questions: How do HSBC and Barclays’ coal policies differ? Which newly added BNP Paribas policies cover oil and gas? Which ING policies use ‘phase out’ language, and for what? What does TD Bank say about Indigenous rights?

Connect Watchtower

  1. Choose your AI assistant

Support may depend on your app, plan or work account. Choose an assistant that supports remote MCP connections.

  2. Copy this prompt

Copy this prompt into your AI assistant to connect the Watchtower MCP. It will guide you through the setup, one step at a time.

I want to connect Watchtower by Bank.Green to this AI assistant. Watchtower is a database of bank climate policy documents, available as a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP).

There are two ways to connect:
    - Without an account: https://watchtower-backend.bank.green/mcp/public
No sign-in. If the app asks about authentication, choose "None" or "No sign in".
Search documents and their full text, browse by bank and category, find earlier versions and recently added documents.
    - With a Watchtower user account: https://watchtower-backend.bank.green/mcp
Sign in with OAuth. Don't use dynamic client registration (DCR).
Lets me view detailed climate commitments and submit new policy documents.

Please guide me through the setup:
    1. Ask which app I want to connect Watchtower to. Put the app you are first, marked as the one I'm using right now, so I can confirm it in one click. Don't ask about my device or plan up front. Only ask when a step depends on it, one question at a time. If I don't know my plan, assume the most common setup and carry on.
    2. Ask how I want to connect. Recommend starting without an account: it works right away, and I can add my account later. If I choose the account version, tell me the client ID is already provided, and ask whether I'm using a desktop or a web application so you can pick the right one.
    3. Check in the app's current official help pages whether my app and plan support remote MCP servers, and whether the app already lists a ready-made Watchtower or Bank.Green connector. If it does, use that. Use what you find to write the steps for me yourself: don't send me links to read or ask me to look things up. Give me the most likely steps without listing plan differences or doubts up front. Only if a step doesn't match what I see, explain what might cause it, such as my plan, an admin setting or a different menu name. If you can't check the help pages, say so. Don't invent menu names.
    4. Authentication. For the version without an account, choose "None" or "No authentication". For the account version, choose OAuth with the option to enter my own client ID, often called manual or custom. Never choose "Automatic" or dynamic client registration (DCR). The client ID is already provided, so I don't need to request one from Bank.Green. For a desktop application, use the client ID 7rSS8XyOBveztrAUzlmG4ZdvuGPMxZ5S. For a web application, use the client ID BK147Av7rzmWdbmRaWDefLphngmjXEeP. Enter it as the client ID and leave the client secret empty unless the app requires one. A client ID is not a sign-in: I still sign in and approve access myself.
    5. If my organization manages the app, for example through Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, explain which options it allows and whether an admin has to act. Before you tell me something isn't possible, check the other versions of the same app (web, desktop and mobile) on my current plan, and offer the one that works. Only suggest upgrading my plan or switching to another AI assistant if no version of this app can connect.
    6. Give me all the setup steps in one go, as a numbered list grouped by screen, with the exact menu and button names. Don't wait for me to say "done" between screens; only stop where you need an answer from me. Before the first step that takes me out of this chat, for example to the settings, tell me to open it in a new tab or window so I can keep these instructions in view, Link straight to that settings page, never to the app's start page. If the help pages don't give a direct link, say so and give me only the menu path. Changing settings, signing in and approving access are things I do myself; don't say you've done them. If the app asks me to approve Watchtower's tools one by one, tell me how to allow them all at once if the app has that option. Watchtower's tools only read data, apart from submitting documents with an account.
    7. When it's set up, check that Watchtower's tools appear in this chat. Then suggest three questions I could ask Watchtower, based on the banks, countries or topics I've asked you about before. If you don't know what I work on, suggest questions about well-known banks and topics, and say that's what you did. Only suggest questions the connection I set up can answer: finding a bank's documents, searching their full text, comparing earlier versions, browsing by category or finding recently added documents. Prefer questions about documents Watchtower has analyzed, which have a commitment report, because those give the most complete answers. Before you suggest a question, quietly check in Watchtower that it has what the question needs, for example the bank's documents or more than one version of a policy. Drop any question it can't answer, and don't tell me which questions you left out or why. Don't show me any results yet. Let me pick one. When I ask it, answer from Watchtower, name the documents you used, and tell me plainly if the answer did not come from Watchtower.

Never ask me to paste passwords, access tokens or secret keys into the chat.

Your assistant will guide you. You may need to change settings and approve access yourself.

  3. Ask your first question

Once Watchtower MCP is connected, try one of these questions to check that your AI assistant can access its data.

    • Which documents does Watchtower have for HSBC?
    • Search Watchtower for bank documents that mention the Net-Zero Banking Alliance.
    • What does Barclays' latest energy policy say about coal mining?
